AHOSKIE – The Lady Warriors of Ahoskie Christian School ended their 2019-20 basketball season this past weekend by placing fourth in the North Carolina Christian Athletic Association’s state tournament.

ACS won their state play-off opener on Feb. 27, racing out to a big lead at halftime (27-9) en route to a 54-33 victory over Liberty Christian School of Richlands.

Morgan Wadsworth’s game-high 17 points led the Lady Warriors. Madison Blowe added 16 points while Cameron Wallace also struck for double figures with 10 points. Calynn Wallace added nine.

In the state semifinals on Feb. 28, Ahoskie Christian squared off against Living Water Christian School of Jacksonville. The Lady Warriors led 22-21 at halftime, but the Living Water girls used a 16-9 advantage in the third quarter to build a lead that they held to the end as ACS fell, 52-41.

Cameron Wallace and Blowe led Ahoskie Christian with 19 and 10 points respectively. Calynn Wallace (5), Wadsworth (4), and Carly Piland (2) rounded out the ACS scoring.

Living Water went on to win the state title and finish the season with a 25-1 record.

On Saturday, Feb. 29, Ahoskie Christian and New Bern Christian Academy met in the state’s third-place game. This time, the Lady Warriors got off to a slow start, trailing 22-10 at halftime. They rallied in the second half, but fell by a 38-32 score.

Cameron Wallace led the way with 15 points. Calynn Wallace had a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds). Payton Brown added five points and Wadsworth chipped in two.

The Lady Warriors finished the season with a 17-5 overall record.

Without any seniors on the 2019-20 squad, Coach Kelly Perry’s team looks poised to make a run to the state championship next season.
