Expressing a need to protect citizens and staff members, several local government entities have temporarily changed their normal operating procedures due to the impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

As of Monday morning (March 23), all Northampton County local government offices are closed to the public until further notice.

“This closure is for your protection to ensure we limit the spread of the virus to our local citizens and employees,” said County Manager Charles Jackson. “Thank you for your cooperation in lessening the spread of this virus.”

Jackson said county staff will continue to work in their offices, but public access will remain by phone or email only for now.

The Ahoskie Town Hall is closed to public access, as are the town’s other municipal offices. However, town operations will continue to be available while staff will provide services by email, phone, fax, mail and drop box.

All services requiring physical visitation may be scheduled by appointment only (call the Town Hall at 252-332-5146).

Ahoskie’s Town Gym is also closed.

Winton and Harrellsville have closed their respective town halls to the public. Staff are working at both locations and can be reached by phone. Citizens can use a drop box located outside the entrance of those town halls to pay utility bills.

The town of Como has canceled their public meetings through April 9.

All visits to inmates at the Hertford County Detention Center in Winton are prohibited until further notice.

All branches of the Albemarle Regional Library system are closed until at least April 1.

Those conducting business at Hertford County DSS will undergo a medical screening prior to being allowed to enter.

Visitation is restricted at Creekside Care of Ahoskie, the Ahoskie House, and Ahoskie Assisted Living.
