WINDSOR – Two incumbents on the Bertie County Board of Education will each face at least one challenger in the Nov. 3 General Election.

Bob Occena and Tarsha Bush-Dudley, both of Windsor, have filed to retain their respective District 1 and District 5 seats on the School Board.

Also filing are political newcomers Reba Cooper Carlton of Windsor (District 1) and Casey Owens of Windsor (District 5).

The filing period, which opened on June 8, closes at 12 noon on Monday, July 6.

Also filing in Bertie County is John M. Griffin of Lewiston-Woodville. He is seeking to retain his seat on the Bertie County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors.

Filing is also underway in Hertford County for its Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors. As of June 26, Pate Pierce of Ahoskie, an incumbent on that Board, has been the only one to file. Filing for that seat closes at 12 noon on Thursday, July 2.

Those wishing to file a Notice of Candidacy in either county should be reminded that the elections offices in both counties are currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Bertie Elections Office (210 West Watson Street, Windsor) can be contacted at 252-794-5306. The Hertford County Elections Office (418 Everett Street – Suite A, Ahoskie) can be reached by calling 252-358-7812.

Candidates can choose to download Notice of Candidacy forms online, fill them out, have them notarized, and mailed (along with a filing fee).

Filing for the Hertford County Board of Education opens early next month.
