AHOSKIE – A local man was hospitalized after a bicycle he was riding was struck by a vehicle.

The mishap occurred shortly before 12 noon on Aug. 7 along a stretch of US 13 south of Ahoskie.

North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper J.V. Reid said Dallas Moore of Ahoskie was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville shortly after the accident, which temporarily shutdown US 13 in both directions.

Trooper Reid said Moore was riding a bicycle southbound along US 13 in the area between Wal Mart and Higher Ground Church. At the same time, Latoyal Holley of Colerain was operating a Chrysler passenger car that was also southbound.

“Mr. Moore made a left turn directly into the path of Ms. Holley’s vehicle and she was unable to stop in time in an effort to avoid striking the bicycle,” Reid said.

He added that Moore was seriously injured. His current medical condition is unknown.

No charges were filed.
