WINDSOR, NC – Brenda Jean Howard LaFon departed her earthly home on September 1, 2020 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington, NC.

Born on January 8, 1951, she was the youngest of five children. She was a graduate of the 1971 class of Bertie High School. She was employed by Blue Ridge Shoe Company, Roses Department Store, Perdue Farms, and Pine Wood Manor. She was a registered Nursing Assistant. She was a faithful member of Askewville Baptist Church where she was active in the choir. Brenda enjoyed sightseeing, gardening, and canning as a pastime.

Completely devoted to her family, she is survived by her husband, John LaFon of 47 years; her son, David LaFon and his wife Anita of Edenton, NC; grandson, Hunter LaFon; her daughter, Lisa Belangia and husband Calvin of Harrellsville, NC; her brother, Curtis Howard Jr. and wife Louise of Murfreesboro, NC; her sister, June Payne and husband Otis of Ahoskie, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her sisters, Nellie Gray Howard and Alma Jane Howard; and her parents Curtis Howard Sr. and Sallie Matthews Howard.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Askewville Baptist Church, with Rev. Zach Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor, NC.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times from the home (713 White Oak Road). At the request of the family, Askewville Baptist Church, and in keeping with COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required at all times.
