AHOSKIE – Whit Roy Edwards, Jr., age 79, passed away on November 19, 2020 at the home of his daughter in Charleston, SC.

Mr. Edwards was born in Gates County, NC, on January 9, 1941, a son of the late Whit Roy and Mildred Liverman Edwards. Whit worked for Sears in Ahoskie, and was retired as Chief of Police in Murfreesboro, NC. Although he loved his work with Sears and the Police Department, he always returned to his true love, trucking. After retirement, Whit enjoyed fishing and tinkering, and spending time with family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Besides his parents, Whit was preceded in death by his son, Sgt. Jeff Edwards, Sr.; a brother, Howard Edwards; and a sister, Betty Gayle Rhea.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 57 years Carolyn Hill Edwards; his daughter, Sheila E. Burgess and husband, Jamie of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Jeff (Emily) Edwards Jr. of Ahoskie, NC; Joey (Victoria) Edwards of Ahoskie, NC, Austin Hoggard and Cole Hoggard of Seaboard, NC, Hunter Burgess of Charleston, SC; and Brylee Burgess of Charleston, SC; and great grandchildren, Hayden Edwards, Shelby Edwards, and Dallas Edwards of Ahoskie, NC; and a sister, Lynne Welliver of Raleigh, NC.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 23, 2020, from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, prior to the services.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Pastor Wallace Phillips, officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
