Bertie deputy injured in fiery car crash
LEWISTON-WOODVILLE – A single-vehicle auto accident near here last night (Thursday) has sent a Bertie County Sheriff’s Deputy to the hospital after his car crashed and caught fire.
According to published report on witn.com, Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said one of his deputies was responding to a call around 7:30 p.m. Thursday night on NC 308 near Lewiston-Woodville. The vehicle rounded a curve and ran off the road before hitting a tree. Holley says the weather played a factor in the crash.
Holley says the deputy’s vehicle caught fire. He says a witness driving behind the deputy pulled over and helped him out of the car.
The deputy, whose name was not released, was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with injuries. The extent of the injuries is unknown.
