HERTFORD, NC – Mary Louise Riddick, 83, of Hertford, went home to be with the Lord on her mother’s birthday, Saturday, January 2, 2021 in Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Miss Riddick was born in Gates County on November 26, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Emory Judson Riddick, Sr. and Mary Ward Riddick. She grew up in the fellowship of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, and after graduating high school she went to live on Broad Street in Windsor, NC with an aunt and uncle where she helped care for them. Following their deaths she continued to live on Broad Street and with a caring and compassionate heart helped many neighbors and friends. When her health failed and she needed to be in an assisted living facility, she continued to help others with that same compassionate heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. She will be missed and remembered by her family and friends who all loved her so dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, William Shirley Riddick, Gilbert Lawrence Riddick, Emory Judson Riddick Jr., and an infant brother, Robert Nelson Riddick; a sister, Vivian Riddick Jones and her husband, Billy Gene Jones; and by a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Riddick.

Surviving are her brother, Calvin Ray Riddick of Smithfield, VA; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Riddick of Hobbsville and Mary Belle Riddick of Sunbury; and eight nieces, four nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews and extended family members.

A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, January 10, at 3:00 p.m. in the Riddick Family Cemetery (next to Sandy Cross Baptist Church), 956 Sandy Cross Road, Hobbsville, and will be conducted by The Rev. Greg Jernigan.

Due to the restrictions and precautions associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic, no formal visitation is being held. However, friends are invited to visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service. Masks and social distancing measures are encouraged.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Benjamin House, PO Box 757, Elizabeth City, NC 27907.
