KELFORD – A murder investigation is underway here after a local man was discovered shot to death and lying in a ditch  early Sunday morning.

Bertie County Sheriff John Holley identified the deceased as 31-year-old Tarquin Delmar Fogg of Church Street in Kelford. That’s the same street where a passerby notified law enforcement of an individual in a ditch that did not appear to be breathing.

Despite the efforts of responding EMTs, Fogg was pronounced dead at the scene.

Holley said the initial call came into his office shortly after midnight on Sunday. Bertie deputies and investigators remained on the scene for hours searching for clues.

“We were able to find out from those living in that area that Mr. Fogg was observed walking there at around 11:30 pm Saturday,” Holley said. “That’s a pretty tight window in our investigation as the body was found roughly 30 minutes later.

“We were also told by neighbors that Mr. Fogg was the type of person that didn’t bother anybody and kept to himself,” the Sheriff added.

Holley said his investigators are working on some leads in the case, but need help from the public. Those with information on the case are encouraged to contact the Bertie Sheriff’s Office at 252-794-5330.
