To the Editor:

I have a question for all the people in our area. Why can’t you spare a few minutes of your time to go to a service on Memorial Day?

I was ashamed of our local people on Monday, May 31. There was almost no one in attendance at a Memorial Day service held at No Man’s Land Park in downtown Ahoskie.

The American Legion Post 102 held the ceremony. They had a great program, but very little in support by way of attendance. There were maybe enough people there to count on the fingers of two hands.

I am not a member of Legion Post 102. I am not a member of their Ladies Auxiliary. But yet I feel it’s my duty to support them, and there are a few others in Ahoskie that feel the same way.

We have many military veterans here over the past years. All of them are not vacationing or at the beach.

Next year, please go to the Post 102 Memorial Day program. We owe them our support. We all have now or had family members who were in the military.

Please support our veterans, whether they served locally or overseas. They all deserve our support.
