Mill worker killed

GATESVILLE – An employee of a local lumber mill was tragically killed in a workplace accident near here Monday morning.
Gates County Sheriff Ray Campbell said the accident occurred at Gates Custom Milling, located on NC 37 south of Gatesville.
The victim’s name was not released pending the notification of next of kin.
Campbell said his deputies responded to the mill and documented the accident scene.
“We turned over all of our documents and photos to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), they are handling the investigation and will determine the exact cause,” Campbell said.
Founded in 1978, Gates Custom Milling operates 58,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space, according to its website.
