WOODLAND – Shirley Odom Bryant, age 75, passed away on October 5, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Mrs. Bryant was born in Bertie County, NC, on November 5, 1945, a daughter of the late John and Lettie Harrell Odom. Shirley worked in the shipping department at Mylcraft for many years.  Shirley was a down home girl who lived a simple life. She enjoyed going with her family and watching them fish, getting to the fishing pier at the beach only recently, and loved it. She enjoyed the outdoors and took every chance to be outside, working in her yard and flowers. Most of all, Shirley loved her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. She was a kind, compassionate woman and will be missed by all who knew her.

Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe Rogers Bryant, Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Debora Anderson and husband, Thomas of Murfreesboro, NC, and Rebecca Bryant of Woodland, NC; a son, Joe Rogers Bryant, Jr. and wife, Frances of Rich Square, NC; two brothers, George H. Odom of Tyner, NC, Adolph Odom and wife, Mollie Jean of Windsor, NC; seven grandchildren, Kristin Bryant, Brittany Lynn, April Lynn, Melanie Anderson, Dominique Anderson, Troy Townes, Jr., and Danielle Townes; and great grandchildren, Jeremiah Lynn, Jayla Moore, Moriah Benton, Jaliyah Moore, Ja’Ceyon Townes, Ah’nario Hendricks, Ragneesh “Pootie” Benton, Jr., and Troy Townes, III.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 4-6 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, NC, and other times at the home of her son.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, NC, with burial to follow in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square, NC.
