WINDSOR – A Bertie County man is jailed under more than a $1 million bond on child sex charges.
Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said officers with the Williamston Police Department arrested Dennis Dale Anton, 37, of US13/17, Windsor, because of an outstanding warrant in Bertie County.
Holley said the charges stem from a 2009 incident which was investigated by Det. Sgt. Ed Pittman and other members of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office along with the State Bureau of Investigation.
Following the investigation, the information was turned over the District Attorney’s Office and a Bill of Indictment was handed down in July of this year.
“The Williamston officers knew we had a warrant for him and made the arrest,” Holley said. “I appreciate their efforts in making sure he was brought in.”
After being arrested, Anton was transferred into the custody of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and nearly 50 charges were placed against him. They include 23 counts of second degree exploitation of a minor and 23 counts of third degree exploitation of a minor. All charges are felonies.
Anton was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $1,350,000 secured bond.
“I appreciate the work of everyone involved in the case from Det. Sgt. Pittman and our officers to the SBI and also Williamston PD,” Holley said.
