Four home games slated

If you’re looking for a good football game Friday night, you will have plenty of options in the Roanoke-Chowan region.
Prep football will be here in force Friday with four local teams taking to their home field on the gridiron including Hertford County High School, Northampton County High School, Lawrence Academy and Northeast Academy.
Bertie High School will be on the road Friday as the Falcons travel to Northeastern Coastal Conference foe Currituck and Gates County High School has the week off.
Perhaps the top local game will be in Ahoskie where the Bears return to the friendly confines of home for the first time since Sept. 14. During their two-game road trip, the Bears dropped an outing at Edenton before bouncing back to take out Currituck.
Friday they will host Pasquotank County High School, a team that lost to Currituck, First Flight and Bertie in their first three league games. The Bears enter the contest 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the league while the Panthers come in 2-5 and 0-3.
“Last week was a very good win for us,” HCHS football boss Scott Privott said. “It was costly in losing three or four players to injury, but we believe all of them will be back except possibly center Tucker Warren.
“It feels good to be heading home, especially for Homecoming,” Privott continued. “Everyone will be excited so we hope to continue to play well and build from last week’s win.”
The Bears will look to even their league record as they head down the home stretch. Thus far this season, they have been led offensively by Kenneth Sharpe, who has 592 yards on 85 carries. Sharpe was injured last week at Currituck, but should be back on the field this week for the Bears.
At quarterback, Ryan Weaver has been a dual threat for the Bears. He has thrown for 431 yards on 35-of-70 passing and also picked up 316 yards on the ground.
The Panthers, meanwhile, will look to snap a four-game losing streak that has them mired in last place in the Northeastern Coastal Conference.
The contest in Creeksville lacks some of the usual luster since Weldon has not gotten off to a good start this season.
While the Chargers have struggled to a 3-3 mark and a 1-1 record in the Tar-Roanoke Conference, Northampton County has started its first season of football well. The Jaguars sit atop the TRC with a spotless 2-0 mark and sit 6-1 overall.
Head Coach George Privott’s teams topped both North Edgecombe and Gates County easily in their first two contests inside the league, beating the former 50-14 and the latter 35-13.
Overall, the Jaguars have accounted for 306 points this season while surrendering just 72, 32 of which came to a highly-ranked Plymouth team in week two.
Kickoff for the contest is 7:30 p.m. Friday from Roy F. Lowry Stadium in Creeksville.
Lawrence Academy is fresh off its first win of the season, dropping rival Northeast Academy last week to garner that victory. This week they will look to make it a winning streak as they welcome Halifax Academy.
Coach Beau Drake’s Warriors have been able to move the football well during the last several weeks, scoring 88 last week and 52 the week before.
Lawrence will look to continue that offensive prowess when they host the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Northeast Academy, meanwhile, will search for their first win at home when they welcome rival Hobgood Academy, also at 7:30 p.m.
