AHOSKIE – An investigation continues into a “shots fired” call in the parking lot of the Ahoskie Wal Mart on Monday afternoon.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said his officers responded to the 3:25 p.m. call.

“An individual in the parking lot told my officers that they heard the shots and were able to give a description of a vehicle from where the shots may have been fired,” Fitzhugh stated.

The Police Chief said the suspect vehicle was a black Ford F-150 truck with tinted windows.

“We were told that one of the vehicle’s windows was down and the person giving us information said the truck was occupied by two Black males,” Fitzhugh said. “That vehicle was last seen traveling west on Memorial Drive.”

Fitzhugh added that a vehicle matching that description was later stopped in the county by a Sheriff’s Deputy.

“At that time it was believed that wasn’t the vehicle we were looking for, but the deputy still asked for and received information about the occupants of the truck at that time,” Fitzhugh said. “We followed up later with one individual, but there was not enough information to go on that would cause us to make an arrest. But we’re still investigating.”

There was no property damage linked to the shots being fired, but Fitzhugh said it’s still a serious crime.

“Due to the high number of shoppers at that particular place of business, the person or persons responsible could face charges of going armed to the terror of the public and/or discharging a weapon to incite fear,” he stressed.

Fitzhugh encourages those who were in that area on Monday between 3 pm and 3:30 pm and witnessed something suspicious or heard the shots to contact the Ahoskie Police Department at 252-332-5011.
