RCCC to host National Summer Transportation Institute

AHOSKIE – Through funding made possible by the Federal Highway Administration in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Roanoke-Chowan Community College will host its 2021 National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) Middle School Program.
This four-week program will host rising 7th and 8th grade participants on June 28 – July 1, July 5-8, July 12-15, and July 19-22 on the campus of Roanoke-Chowan Community College.
This non-residential program creates awareness and stimulates interest in higher education and careers in the transportation industry.
The curriculum will expose participants to new frontiers and adventures such as highway design, transportation of people and cargo, inter-modal operations, laws, regulations, safety, and career opportunities. In addition, participants will participate in enrichment activities that include computer training, project-based learning, and field trips.
Program funding will support an estimated 20 students with full scholarships to participate in the program. Scholarships will include full tuition, workshop materials, facility usage, equipment and supplies, travel, lab fees, and guest speakers.
The applications deadline is 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 10.
