MURFREESBORO – At a special called meeting held on Nov. 4, Murfreesboro Town Council approved two resolutions for upcoming infrastructure projects.
The funds were allocated to the town through the state budget last year, and are being administered through the NC Department of Environmental Quality. Approving the resolutions is another step in moving the projects forward.
The first resolution was for the amount of $1,237,500 to be used for water meter replacement, and the second is $1,300,000 to be used for water line replacements on Main Street and Third Street.
Both resolutions were approved by unanimous vote of the council.
As previously reported by the News Herald, Murfreesboro received a $4.3 million allocation from the state budget that went into effect in Oct. 2023. Before receiving the funds, the town submitted a list of potential infrastructure projects that needed funding. Among those projects were water meter replacement and Main Street and Third Street water line replacement.
Many of these projects will rectify problems that have occurred due to the age of the town’s infrastructure.
The current manual water meters, for example, will be replaced with newer automatic meters that will provide more accurate readings and free up employees to focus on other tasks. Water pipes on Third and Main Streets that are prone to splits and breaks will be replaced with newer PVC pipe.
