This year July 4th was a special one for Debbie and me. Our daughter, Jennifer, moved to North Carolina from St Louis, Missouri.

Debbie and I really have come to love the Roanoke-Chowan area. We have already made some special friends here and I know we will make many more. It’s funny how some people and some places just seem to be a match. We have felt right at home right from the beginning and the people of the area have treated us as if they have known us all their lives.

We are extremely excited to have our youngest child move to Ahoskie. It feels now as if we are staring to put down some roots here in this wonderful community.

Since she’s been in town we have had the privilege to introduce her to our friends, co-workers and neighbors. She also has been fortunate enough to have met some friends on her own.

Since she has moved here we have kept her pretty busy.  She attended a huge fish fry; volunteered for the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce’s annual Arthur Lee Wiggins Memorial Golf Tournament; danced the night away with The Band of Oz at the Colerain Beach Club; and visited the Ahoskie Rotary Club. Not bad for a kid that just moved to town.

I know she misses the big city lights of St. Louis, but she’s a small town girl at heart and it wasn’t a culture shock when she moved to our quaint little town. She was raised in rural South Georgia and I don’t care what you do, or where you move, you can’t take the country out of a country girl. As we rode though the county side Sunday she made a comment that the Roanoke-Chowan area looked exactly like home. I leaned over to her and said… but, you are home.
