LASKER – Four Halifax Academy players hit double figures as they downed the home-standing Northeast Academy 66-23 here Tuesday night.
Lady Eagle senior Jeanie Hargrave got her squad on the board first with a pair of free throws, but a deuce from Jodi Williams and a triple by Sarah Long put Halifax ahead 5-2.
Northeast got a bucket from Brittany Wade before the Lady Vikings went on a 10-0 run to grab a 15-4 advantage. Brittany Hamill was the catalyst for the spurt with five of the 10 points.
Hargrave stopped the run with her bucket with under two minutes to play, but a Chloe Connor score gave Halifax a 17-6 lead after one quarter.
Long’s basket to start the second period made it 19-6, but Northeast responded with back-to-back hoops from Hargrave to get within 10 (19-10).
Halifax, however, responded with a 5-0 spurt to pull back ahead. They got hoops from Whitney Rightmyer and Brittany Traylor on the run.
Lori Coggins completed a three-point play for the Lady Eagles to trim the deficit to 24-13, but Halifax rolled off six unanswered to end the first half ahead 30-13.
In the third quarter, the Lady Vikings pulled away with an 8-2 run to start the third quarter. Williams, who had a game-high 18 points, led the spurt with six points. Hargrave had the only bucket to interrupt the spurt.
Halifax also closed the quarter on a 10-0 run that made it 52-19 at the end of three quarters.
Williams led Halifax with her 18 while Hamill added 14 points and Long and Rightmyer had 10 each.
The Lady Eagles put only one in double digits as Hargrave had 12 points.
Northeast will be back at home Friday for another non-conference affair as they host Bethel Christian Academy at 5 p.m.
