AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Christian School girls raised their record to 2-1 here last week.
The Lady Warriors used a 35-33 victory over previously undefeated Cornerstone to improve their overall record.
Ahoskie jumped out to an 8-0 advantage enroute to a 19-16 halftime advantage.
Sophomore Ashley Fountain led ACS with 20 points and 17 rebounds.
&uot;I’m proud of our defense,&uot; stated ACS head coach Jay Conn. &uot;We had to stop Rhea Brown and we ‘held’ her to 26 thanks to consistent double teaming by Tori Conn and Sarah Calderado.&uot;
Brown had 26 of Cornerstone’s 33 points.
Senior Ashley Whitehead had eight and freshman Amanda Hall added five points.
Ahoskie’s boys were able to grab their first win of the season by a 56-45 count over Cornerstone.
The Warriors led 30-12 at halftime and were led by Jacob Outlaw with 26 points. Tripp Plaunty had 12 while Chris Olson added 10 points and 10 steals.
Ahoskie Christian coach Steve Teeter said he was pleased with the team’s first win and hoped it was something the Warriors could build on.
Jeremy Gregory led the Patriots with 29 points.
Ahoskie will travel to Emmanuel Christian tonight.
