NCHS-East rallies

CREEKSVILLE – The Rams rallied from a 7-1 deficit to beat Franklinton 8-7 in a baseball outing here Tuesday.
The Northampton-East victory improved the Rams to 1-0 inside the Tar-Roanoke Conference.
&uot;This was a team effort,&uot; NCHS-East coach Josh Wilson said. &uot;This was a big win for us. It was a great way to start conference play. Franklinton is always one of the top team in our conference.&uot;
Northampton-East scored the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Trailing 7-5, the Rams plated three in the sixth.
Justin Colson had an RBI-single, R.J. White scored on a passed ball and Travis Mason scored the winning run on a passed ball to push Northampton-East to an 8-7 win.
Franklinton scored two runs in the top of the first to go ahead, but Northampton rallied for a run in the bottom of the same inning.
Tim Gubitz had an RBI-single that trimmed the Franklinton lead to 2-1 after a complete inning of play.
Franklinton added two in the top of the second and three in the top of the third to grab a 7-1 advantage, but the Rams didn’t quit.
Northampton began their comeback with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Ty Ard and Colson each had an RBI-single and another run scored on a passed ball to trim the Franklinton lead to 7-4 after three innings.
The Rams added another run in the bottom of the fourth frame on a Coderro Cotton RBI-single that got East to within 7-5.
Colson started and pitched two innings with Cotton pitching the final five frames. Cotton allowed no runs during his stint on the mound.
The Rams are 1-6 overall after the victory, but stand atop the league standings with a 1-0 record. They will host Weldon today in a Tar-Roanoke Conference contest. That game begins at 4 p.m.
