Braves rally falls short

MURFREESBORO – Despite a late comeback from the Braves in the second half, visiting Millersville University pulled out a 69-65 win at the Helms Center this afternoon.

The loss evens the Chowan College men’s basketball record at 2-2.

The Braves trailed 32-30 at the half and got down by as many as 17 points before making a charge at the 4:23 mark of the second half.

Trayvon Lathan tipped a shot in the paint to cut the Marauders lead to 11 points. Chris Owens nailed a three on the Braves next possession to cut the lead to eight points with 3:54 to play in the game.

After two missed free throws by MU, Isaac McCall made good on a three-point play after being fouled to pull the Braves within five points with 3:05 to go in the game.

MU’s Charlie Parker hit 1-of-2 free throws to give his team a 66-60 lead.

Chowan’s Marcus Artis drilled a three-pointer with :52 to play to pull within three points of the Marauders.

Greg Testa made 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute to take the 69-65 win over the Braves.

For Chowan, Lathan netted 19 points and grabbed a game-high 19 boards. He also had three assists and one steal in the game.

McCall also scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds. He shot 8-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Artis contributed nine points and eight rebounds in the loss.

For Millersville, Testa netted a game-high 23 points while Charlie Parker scored 18 points. Chowan shot 38% (26-68) from the floor and out rebounded MU 53-34 in the game.
