Lake Day set for Saturday

HENRICO – Free transportation, free admission and free food….no one can beat that deal.

That’s what area children can take advantage of here Saturday (June 17) where EXODUS for Youth, Inc. will host their annual Lake Day at Edwards Beach on Lake Gaston.

Activities include boat rides, board games, volleyball, dodgeball, horseshoes, softball, tag football and fishing.

Youth will be allowed to wade into the water. They are responsible for bringing a towel. Lifeguards will be present to ensure safety.

Participation is free and lunch will be catered.

Event organizers are asking adults to chaperone youth groups. EXODUS has arranged for transportation. However, churches, agencies and individuals are encouraged to provide transportation for young people in their respective communities.

Young people from Bertie, Halifax, Hertford and Northampton counties are eligible to attend and take part in the festivities.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Edwards Beach. The beach is located off NC 46 near Henrico. Turn left onto River Road (RP 1214 at the Lake Gaston Community Center). Then turn onto the second paved road to the left (RP 1250) and follow until the end of the road.

The transportation schedule is as follows:

Bertie County n buses will pick-up children at 8:30 a.m. at Bertie High School and Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Hertford County n children can board buses beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Hertford County High School and Hertford County Middle School.

Northampton County n buses will make pick-ups between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at Rich Square-Creecy Elementary School, JJ’s Supermarket in Woodland, Potecasi Post Office, Conway Middle School, the Northampton Courthouse parking lot in Jackson, Seaboard-Coates Elementary School, Garysburg Elementary School and Gaston Middle School.

Buses will begin making their way back home beginning at 3 p.m.
