WINTON – Three seats on the Hertford County Board of Education will be up for grabs in the November election.
Filing for those three seats will begin next Friday (July 7) at 12 noon.
According to Elections Director Sheila Privott, those who wish to seek one of the three open seats will be able to file between July 7 and 12 noon on August 4.
The non-partisan election will be held November 7 as part of the general election ballot. Those who are elected will be sworn in to take their seats in December.
The Hertford County Board of Elections will be open for those wishing to file from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday during the filing period. There will be no Saturday filing for the board of education offices.
There is a $5 filing fee.
Those who currently hold the seats which will be available are five-term incumbent John D. Horton, two-term board member Ronald G. Baker and one-term incumbent the Rev. Patrick Young.
In Monday night’s meeting of the Hertford County Board of Education, Baker indicated that, despite what may have been speculated, he would seek a third term on the Board.
Baker is the only member of the board to have made his intentions public.
