Alise B. Askew

LASKER – Alise Britton Askew, 81, a native of Northampton County, died November 11, 2006 at the Halifax Regional Medical Center. She was the widow of Wilson Askew.

Mrs. Askew e was a life long member of the Lasker Baptist Church, which she served in many capacities.

She was a former deacon of the church and was a member of WMU.

She worked and retired from Mylcraft Textile Industries.

Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Askew of Rich Square; one brother, Franklin Britton of Lasker; one grandchild; one great-grandchild.

A funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Lasker Baptist Church in Lasker by the Rev. Ricky Barnes.

Burial will be in Lasker Cemetery.

Officiating will be the Rev. Ricky Barnes. Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square is in charge.

William L. Herron

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. –

William L. Herron, 85, a native of Duluth, Minn., died November 11, 2006, Veterans Day at his home.

Herron was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a past district chairman of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and a past director of the First Marine Division Association, and was secretary of the Murfreesboro Historical Association.

Survivors include his daughter, Sherri DePalma of Alexandria, Va.; sons, Robert of Sunland, Calif., and Lawrence of Dayton, Ohio and Michael of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Rosanne and Miriam of New York; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Saint Gregory Catholic Church immediately followed by an Irish Wake in Virginia Beach. Burial will be in Quantico National Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is in charge.

Allen E. Askew Jr.

EURE -Allen Edgar Askew Jr., 60, a native of Gates County, died November 11, 2006, in Roanoke- Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. He was the widower of Margaret Cofield Weaver Askew.

Askew was a retired substance abuse worker with Roanoke-Chowan Human Services, he was a member of Eure Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Allen E. Askew III of Eure and Sgt. 1st Class Troy L. Weaver of Edgewood, Md.; a sister, Lisa Askew Baines of Eure; and two grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Monday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, by the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Burial was in the family plot at Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the cemetery fund of Cool Spring Baptist Church, c/o Merwin Bauerle, 460 US 13 South, Eure, NC 27935.

Sandra H. Windley

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Sandra Horton Windley, 53, a native of McMinville, Tenn., died November 9, 2006, at her home.

Mrs. Windley had worked as a representative for several companies within the cemetery industry.

Survivors include her husband, Bonner Windley of Sunbury; four sons, William Robbie Horton Jr, James Horton, Corey Horton and Dexter Horton, all of Chesapeake; a sister, Pattie Migilore of Glen Allen, Va.; a brother, Jamie Byars of Hampton; her father, James Byars Sr.; and three grandchildren.

Horace D. Gardner

SUFFOLK, Va. – Horace David Gardner, 63, a native of Nansemond County, Va., died November 10, 2006.

Gardner retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 37 years as a welding supervisor. He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary B. Gardner; daughter, Priscilla G. Bunch of Suffolk; son David Gardner of Suffolk; a brother, Bruce Gardner of Corapeake; and grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Liberty Spring Christian Church by the Rev. Allen Lancaster. Burial was in Liberty Spring Christian Church cemetery. Parr Funeral Home was in charge.
