COLERAIN – Two men are wanted in connection of a Wednesday night armed robbery near here at White’s Cross Grocery on Wakelon Road.
Bertie County Sheriff Greg Atkins reported that two black males entered the store at approximately 7 p.m. Both were wearing dark clothing, hooded jackets and masks.
The Sheriff said one of the suspects was carrying a long-barreled weapon while the other was seen with a handgun.
There were customers in the store at the time of the incident.
“Fortunately, no shots were fired and the cashier and the customers cooperated with the requests made by the two suspects,” Atkins said. “No one was injured and that’s the best possible news that comes out of an armed robbery.”
Atkins said the suspects demanded money from the cashier. They left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Eyewitnesses at the scene did not know if the suspects left on foot or if there was a getaway vehicle involved.
The suspects were described as medium height and build, but due to their heavy clothing, law enforcement officials are uncertain of their weight.
“We are actively investigating this case,” Atkins said. “Anyone with any information that can help us in arresting these suspects can call our office at 794-5330.”
