Lloyd E. Bracy, Jr.
CONWAY – Mr. Lloyd Earl Bracy, Jr., age 62 died at his home on Wednesday, March 14, 2007.
He was a native of Hertford County and made his home in Conway where he lived most of his life.
He was married to Patsy Lewis Bracy in 1965 and to them was born four wonderful children.
Mr. Bracy retired as the Town Superintendent of Conway in 2001.
He was an avid racing fan and fisherman.
Preceding him in death are his mother and father, Ima Hoggard Bracy and Lloyd Earl Bracy, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy L. Bracy of the home, one daughter Patricia Baker and her husband Michael of Hertford, NC, three sons, Richard Bracy and his wife Phyllis of Rich Square, NC, Jimmy Bracy and his wife Melanie of Conway, NC and Stephen Bracy of Conway, NC, two sisters Jayne Davenport of Virginia Beach, VA and Peggy Burgess and her husband James of Franklin, VA.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Alethea Rickard, Mathew Baker, Sarah Baker, Cody Bracy, Angel Bracy, Michael Bracy, Nicholas Bracy and Emily Bracy along with two great grandchildren, Gavin Baker and Hunter Rickard.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 2 P.M. at the Chapel of Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square with the Rev. Jerry Boyd and Rev. Sandy Outlaw officiating.
The burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC.
The family received friends Friday evening at Sykes Funeral Service from 7:00-8:30 P.M.
David C. Britt
FRANKLIN, Va. – David Collin Britt, died March 10, 2007, in Suffolk.
Survivors include his wife, Essie Britt; three brothers, J.C. Britt of Murfreesboro, Thomas Britt of Portsmouth and Calvin Britt of Detroit; and six sisters, Ollie Lewis of Como, Beatrice Cary, Ruth Britt of Bronx, N.Y., Naomi Boone, Irene Britt of Murfreesboro and Maxine Britt of Suffolk.
The homegoing service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday White Oak Spring Missionary Baptist Church, 26125 Delaware Road with Pastor Eddie Lee. Entombment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 224 S. Main St.
Amos R. Battle
GATES n Amos R. Battle, 84, died March 12, 2007 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Piney Grove Baptist Church, Gates. Burial will be in New Piney Wood Chapel Church Cemetery, Drum Hill, NC. Stallings Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.
Donald Johnson
ROANOKE RAPIDS n Donald Johnson, 69, died March 15, 2007 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.
Margie Ashworth
WINDSOR n Margie Louise Fowler Ashworth, 70, a native of Lawrenceville, GA, died March 15, 2007. She was the widow of Rufus Junior Ashworth.
Mrs. Ashworth was a member of Askewville Assembly of God Church. She retired from the Brian Center.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Askewville Assembly of God Church by the Rev. R.O. Denton Jr. and the Rev. R.O. Denton Sr. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Survivors include his daughters, Debbie Farrenkoph of Windsor and Tammy Lee of Colerain; a sister, Helen Fowler Butler of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
James A. Douglas
WELDON n James A. Douglas, 45, died March 10, 2007 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Garysburg, by Bishop Carlton Davis. Interment will be in the church cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.
Shirley R. Smith
SCOTLAND NECK – Shirley Rose Smith, 72, died March 15, 2007 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Lowell Smith of the home, one daughter, Denise Smith of Balwin, MO, one son, Bart Smith of the home; and one sister, Pat Reinimer of Colorado.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Chapel of Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the Resthaven Memory Garden in Fort Collins, Colorado. The family will receive friends Saturday evening at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square from 7-8:30 p.m. as well as on Thursday, March 22 at Kibbey-Fisburn Funeral Home in Loveland, Colorado from 1-2 p.m. just prior to the graveside service at Resthaven Memory Garden in Fort Collins, Colorado. Willie Majette Jr.
GATESVILLE n Willie Majette Jr., 69, a native of Hertford County, died March 15, 2007 at Down East Health & Rehab Center.
A funeral will be conducted by 2:30 p.m. Sunday at The Church of Faith Tabernacle, Murfreesboro, by Pastor Peggy Beale. Burial will be in Nebo Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be a wake on Saturday from 7-8 pm. at the Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Winton.
Survivors include one son, Willie McKinley of Edenton; three daughters, Ella Artis of Kelford, Brenda Jean Richard of Long Beach, Calif., and Janie Mae Majette of Raleigh; three brothers, Jessie Majette of Maryland, John Majette of Aulander and Elton Majette of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Janie Martin of Murfreesboro, Shirley Burke of Maryland and Hattie Lassiter of Windsor; and five grandchildren.
Violet C. Askew
GREENVILLE – Mrs. Violet C. Askew, 89, died Thursday, March 14, 2007 at Britthaven Nursing Home.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted Saturday, March 17 at 2 p.m. in the Highland Memorial Gardens, HWY 13 N. Ahoskie, NC, with the Rev. Daniel Glaze officiating.
Mrs. Askew was a native of Whaleyville, Va. After graduating from Longwood College she taught school in Virginia until she married Carlyle Askew in 1946.
She then moved to Ahoskie, NC where she lived for fifty seven years. She was a member of the Ahoskie First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 25 years.
She was a long time member of the Ahoskie Women’s Club, and the Hertford County Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Askew was preceded in death by her parents, Zeb Vance and Sallie Edwards Cross; husband, Carlyle Askew; daughter, Carolyn A. Williams; and sister, Katherine Horton and Sybil Bowen.
She is survived by: a son, Edward Askew and wife Joanne of Winterville, NC; son-in-law, Jerry Williams of Indianapolis, IN; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the graveside service and at other times will be at the home of Edward and Joanne Askew, 1944 Cornerstone Dr, Winterville, NC 28590.
Flowers are welcome.
