Eagles defeat two

Northeast Academy claimed a pair of tennis victories over the past week.
The Lady Eagles defeated Ridgecroft School 5-4 before knocking off Greenfield School 8-1.
In last week’s matchup with rival Ridgecroft, Northeast took four singles victories and added one doubles win to secure the victory.
Northeast top seed Betty Edwards, who is 12-3 for the season, defeated Jessica Bolton 8-2.
Third-seeded Kelly Edwards then knocked off Caroline Bowman 8-2.
Ridgecroft number two seed Tayler Smith defeated LeAnn Barnes while teammate Taylor Futrell defeated Taylor Cocke 8-4.
Northeast swept the final two singles matches with Kathryn Bryant beating Crystal Styron 8-6 and number six seed Lansdell Edwards winning over Erin Riddick by the same score.
In doubles competition, Ridgecroft’s top ranked team of Bolton and Smith edged Betty Edwards and Barnes 9-7.
Lady Rams Bowman and Riddick then defeated Cocke and Bryant 8-5.
Northeast secured the victory when Kelly Edwards and Lansdell Edwards edged Futrell and Styron 9-7.
On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles easily won their matchup with Greenfield.
Betty Edwards defeated Elizabeth Cobb 6-4, 6-1 in the battle of number one seeds and LeAnn Barnes topped Betsy Bethune 6-3 and 7-5.
Greenfield’s only win came when number three seed Megan Gleespan defeated Kelly Edwards 6-0, 6-3.
Northeast swept the bottom three singles’ seeds when Taylor Cocke defeated Katie Purinal 6-2 and 6-1, Kathryn Bryant beat Taylor Howell 6-2 and 6-1 and Lansdell Edwards stopped Laura Singleton by identical counts of 6-0.
In doubles competition, Betty Edwards and Barnes rolled 8-0 over Cobb and Purinal. Cocke and Bryant then defeated Bethune and Gleespan and Kelly Edwards and Lansdell Edwards beat back the challenge of Singleton and Howell by a count of 8-1.
