Louise N. Deans
GREENSBORO -Louise Nowell Deans, 84, a native of Aulander, died October 5, 2007, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Alton Craig Deans.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forbis & Dick, North Elm Chapel, with the Rev. Vickers. Mrs. Deans graduated from nursing school at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in 1944. She worked at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the offices of Dr. Wiley and Dr. Hooper in Norfolk and many years later in the nursery of the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina in Greensboro.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Anne Deans of Greensboro and Mary Deans Clark of High Point; brother, Willis Hampton Nowell of Norfolk; and five grandchildren.
Mark Goldblatt
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Mark Goldblatt, 61, a native of Norfolk, died October 5, 2007, in his home.
Goldblatt graduated from Maury High School, Chowan College and the Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University). He was a businessman, a Realtor and an entrepreneur.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne; and brother Alan.
Dr. Lawrence A. Forman will be officiating the service in Forest Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the local SPCA or to a charity of your choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is in charge

D. Michael Whitley
SEDLEY, Va. – David Michael Whitley, 59, a native of Suffolk, died October 6, 2007.
Whitley was a longtime Southampton County farmer. He was the owner and operator of D & M Farms and was a member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ. He was also a Navy veteran and served two tours in Vietnam with the Seebees.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Mosley Whitley; his mother, Christine Williams &uot;Nana&uot; Whitley of Sedley; three sons, Carlton Michael Whitley, Mark Alexander Whitley and Brian Franklin Whitley, all of Sedley; two sisters, Linda W. Carter of Franklin and June W. Davenport of Windsor; and four grandchildren.
A funeral was conducted Monday in Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. Armand Jalbert. Burial followed in Rosemont Cemetery. Nolie K. Rose
NAGS HEAD n Nolie Keel Rose, 60, of Nags Head, NC, died Saturday, October 6, 2007.
Ms. Rose, a native of Wilson, NC, was the daughter of the late Zeno Hardy Rose and Nolie Keel Highsmith Rose, both of Wilson, NC.
Before retiring to Nags Head, NC, Ms. Rose worked as Director of Patient and Family Services at the Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and was
the Director of Hospice, both in Ahoskie, NC.
Ms. Rose is survived by her son, Robert H. Parnell of Colington and her daughter, Nolie Keel Parnell and husband Daniel Hogan of Lafayette, IN; three grandchildren, John Riley Hogan, Daniel Keenan Hogan and William Cotter Hogan, and her sister Margaret Faust of Raleigh, NC.
A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church, by the Reverend Charles E.B. Gill. James H. Archer
MURFREESBORO n James Herod Archer, 94, a native of Hertford County, died October 6, 2007, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
Archer was retired as a District of Columbia law enforcement officer. He was a member of the D.C. Retired Law Enforcement Officers Association and South Winton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughters, Norma Yvonne Archer Carter of Richmond, VA, and Joyce Ann Archer Turan of Silver Spring, MD; his sister, Christine Archer Luffborough of Norfolk, VA; a granddaughter; and four great grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of life service will be conducted on Mr. Archer’s birthday, December 1, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie.
Theron M. Chlomoudis
MURFREESBORO n Theron Michael Chlomoudis, two days old, the infant son of George Michael and Geannine Barnes Chlomoudis, died October 4, 2007, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Barbara and Harrell Barnes of Colerain; and his paternal grandparents, Mike Chlomoudis of Murfreesboro and Jean Timberlake of Woodland.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church by the Rev. Wint Hale. Garrett Funeral Home is in charge.
Dorothy P. Williford
AHOSKIE n Dorothy Perry Williford, 89, of the 900 block of West Stokes Street, died Monday, October 8, 2007, in her home.
Mrs. Williford, affectionately known to many as “Mama Dot” was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late Walter and Annie Bazemore Perry. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Ahoskie and a homemaker.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Jo Ann Williford of Raleigh; her son, Eddie Williford and wife, Beth of Raleigh; a daughter-in-law, Susan Williford of Durham; a sister, Annie Rae Chamblee of Edenton; and grandchildren, Carrie Williford, Amanda McAvoy, Walt Williford and Lee Williford. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Lee Williford; and a son, Allen Lee Williford.
A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at First Baptist Church Ahoskie with the Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom and the Rev. Daniel Glaze officiating. Private burial will be in Ahoskie Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and other times at the home. Horace C. Dilday Sr.
AHOSKIE n Horace Christopher Dilday, Sr., age 93, of Ahoskie, NC, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Guardian Care.
Mr. Dilday was born August 11, 1914, in Bertie County, NC, the son of the late Seth Anthony Dilday and Allie Mitchell Dilday. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Nellie Mae Brinkley Dilday, his brothers, Levi Dilday, Kelly Dilday, Hersey Lee Dilday, John S. Dilday, a sister, Ruby Dilday and a great-granddaughter, Hailey.
Mr. Dilday was a retired farmer. He was a lifetime member of Center Grove Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon for 43 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Freeman Dilday; his children, Ann D. White and her husband, Jim, Horace C. Dilday Jr. and Kay D. Jernigan, all of Ahoskie, NC; three sisters, Nellie D. Childers of Virginia Beach, VA, Allie Mitchell Fowler of New Bern, NC, and Nancy D. Dupree of Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Charles, Sherri, Mitzi, Sandy, Donna, Rhonda and Kristina; 14 grandchildren; two stepchildren, Al Freeman of Lakeland, Florida and Debra Peede of Atlanta, GA; five stepgrandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Center Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Skeens and Rev. Tommy Tripp officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, Tuesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home.

WOODLAND n Herbert J. Edwards Jr., died October 8, 2007 at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids.
