Pedestrian struck

AHOSKIE – A 77-year-old Ahoskie woman was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle late Wednesday afternoon.
According to a report filed by North Carolina State Highway Patrol Sgt. M.W. Warren, Marie Strickland of 208 NC 561 (Harrellsville Highway) was crossing the road in front of her residence when the mishap occurred.
Sgt. Warren stated in his report that Strickland had walked across the road to retrieve the mail and was in the process of crossing the road again. There, she was struck by a vehicle driven by Rose Vaughan, 49, of Magnolia Road, Ahoskie.
Vaughan’s vehicle was traveling east on NC 561 at the time and the impact occurred in the eastbound lane, according to Sgt. Warren’s report.
The mishap occurred at dusk, as stated in the report.
Strickland was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville where her condition is unknown.
There was no report of any charges filed.
