Ahoskie solicits help

AHOSKIE – Your assistance is requested.
Town of Ahoskie officials are soliciting ideas on giving a new identity to what is now referred to as the “Buyout” area. Currently, that property is under development for recreational purposes. It is the Lakeview/Edgewood Drive area that was devastated by Hurricane Floyd and eventually purchased by FEMA. In turn, that federal organization deeded the property over to Hertford County who then returned it back to the Town of Ahoskie.
The property can never be used again for residential or commercial purposes, but it can be developed for parks/recreation.
In order to remove the not-so-pleasant stigma associated with the “Buyout” area, the Ahoskie Town Council will consider input from local citizens in an effort to solicit names for the recreational complex.
Suggestions can be mailed, e-mailed or dropped-off at the Ahoskie Town Hall on or before Feb. 6.
Ahoskie Town Council members are expected to begin discussions of naming the complex at their Feb. 12 meeting.
