Maggie P. Lowe
HARRELLSVILLE – Maggie Pearl Hoggard Lowe, 89, died Sunday December 30, 2007 at Martin General Hospital.
Mrs. Lowe was born April 14, 1918 in Hertford County, a daughter of the late Savage and Pearl Evans Hoggard. She was a faithful member of Christian Harbor Baptist Church, Harrellsville, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served her Lord and Community. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Lowe had resided for three years at the Hamilton Baptist Home, Hamilton, NC, and more recently at the Vintage Inn at Williamston, NC. She was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas Earl Lowe, Sr. on April 2, 1988.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons; Thomas Earl Lowe, Jr. and wife Patsy, Williamston, NC., Kenneth Hoggard Lowe and wife Barbara, Edenton, NC., four grandchildren; Quinn Lowe and wife Nancy, Cary, NC., Catherin Langfitt and husband, Dean, Jamestown, NC, Scott Lowe and wife Jodi, Clayton, NC, Brandy Walker and husband Jimmy, Washington, NC, six great grandchildren; Colin Lowe, Kyndahl and Kelton Langfitt, Sawyer and Braxton Lowe, and Reagan Walker. Mrs. Lowe was predeceased by three sisters; Helen Taylor of Seaboard, Lillian Holloman and Jennie V. Holloman of Harrellsville.
A celebration Mrs. Lowe’s life will be 2:00 PM Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Garrett Funeral Home Ashley Chapel 205 NC Highway 42 West Ahoskie, NC., with the Rev. Hugh Mizelle officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends at the Funeral Home fro 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Wednesday January 2, 2008 and will assemble at the Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 3, 2008.

James A. Holley
COLERAIN n James Arthur “Pecan Holley” Holley, 72, a native of Merry Hill, died December 29, 2007 at his residence.
Holley was a member of Oxley Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Merry Hill. He was last employed as a line leader at Perdue, Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Raynor Holley of the home; children, Alma Lee of Powellsville, Christabelle Holley of Trap, Jeanette Riddick of Dale City, Va., James Holley Jr. of New York, Penelope Holley of Colerain, Annie Weaver of Murfreesboro, Carolyn Beattie of Wilson, William Cofield of Rich Square, Audrey Lawrence of Fayetteville, Brenda Salvage of Harrellsville, Cheryl White of Powellsville, Carmenlita Cofield of Colerain, Jeffrey Cofield of Powellsville, Curtis Cofield of Hexalena, James Cofield of Kentucky and Lelia Cofield of Colerain; sisters, Laura Christopher, Mary Jones, Christine Foy and Celia Fuller of Baltimore, Md.; brothers, Otis S. Holley Jr. and Henry Holley, both of Hempstead; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oxley Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Merry Hill, by the Rev. Vonner Horton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, was in charge.
Alma L. Ashley
AHOSKIE – Alma Louise Ashley, 86, a native of Ahoskie, died December 31, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
She was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Beatrice Sessoms of Ahoskie; and one nephew.

Joseph Brown
LITTLETON n Joseph Brown, 77, died December 30, 2007 at his residence.

Florence Leavitt
LEWISTON-WOODVILLE n Florence Marie Chase Leavitt, 68, a native of Burlington Flats, NY, died December 28, 2007 at Three Rivers Health and Rehab.
Mrs. Leavitt was a homemaker.
A graveside funeral service was conducted Wednesday at the Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery by the Rev. Doug Spivey. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Hearth Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas 75231. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
Survivors include daughters, Marie L. Harrell of Kelford and Christine L. Deloach of Oneonta, NY; a son, Everett Leavitt of Mohawk, NY; a sister, Dorothy Brown of Utica; a brother, Robert Leavitt of Mohawk; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mary Davis
CONWAY n Mary Alice Sliger Davis, 81, died December 30, 2007 at Rich Square Health Care Center, Rich Square.
A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Galatia Baptist Church by the Rev. David Foster and the Rev. Darrell Davis. Burial was in the Town of Conway Cemetery. Bridgers Funeral Home, Conway, was in charge. They have requested that anyone wishing to share a memorial gift may do so to the Pendleton Chapter 13, Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Davis had been a beautician by profession and was a member of Galatia Baptist Church and a member of the Conway Womans Club. She was also a 33 year member of Pendleton Chapter 13, Order of the Eastern Star having served as Past Worthy Matron, Deputy Grand Matron, Grand Representative for Alberta, Canada, and Director of Camp Rainbow near Boone.
Survivors include her husband, Raby Davis; and a daughter, Kaye Davis of their home.
Alice M. Warrick
JACKSON n Alice M. Warrick, a native of Petersburg, Va., died December 30, 2007 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was the widow of Lloyd T. Warrick.
A funeral was conducted Wednesday in Jackson Baptist Church by the Rev. Lonnie Armstrong, the Rev. Joe McLean and the Rev. Billy Howell. Burial was in Jackson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson Baptist Church or to Jackson Woman’s Club.
Mrs. Warrick retired from the Northampton County Board of Education where she worked for many years in the finance department. She was a member of Jackson Woman’s Club where she had served as the president from 1975-76, 1979-81 and 1986-87. She was voted Jackson Woman’s Club Woman of the Year in 1980.
Survivors include many friends and her church family.
Allean G. Briscoe
MEMPHIS, Tenn. Allean Gwaltney Briscoe, 86, formerly of Gates, died December 26, 2007 in Memphis.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Gates. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.
Maritha V. Gatling
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. n Maritha V. Gatling, 62, a native of Hertford County, died December 25, 2007 at Plantation General Hospital, Plantation, Fla.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at New Beginning Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Shirley Johnson. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include her stepmother, Lina T. Gatling of Murfreesboro; her children, Sharon Gatling, Anthony Gatling, Ernest Gatling and Alden Gatling, all of Ft. Lauderdale; one brothers, Oris C. Gatling of Franklin, Va.; four sisters, Rev. Shirley G. Johnson, Angela Gatling and Cynthia Stephenson, all of Murfreesboro and Gloria Eure of Gates; and seven grandchildren.
James L. Gallagher
CONWAY – James Leon Gallagher 79, of the 600 block of Buck Boone Road, died January 1, 2008 in his home.
Mr. Gallagher was a native Summit Hill, PA, a member of St. Charles Catholic Church; a retired Supervisor for Hercules, Inc. Parkland, NJ. He was the son of the late John B. and Gertrude Kelly Gallagher.
A Funeral Mass will be said at St. Charles Catholic Church Friday, January 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Thomas J. McGee, O.S.F.S. officiating. Burial will follow in Conway Cemetery, Conway, NC.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Helen Tucholski Gallagher; two step daughters, Jean Deacon; Murfreesboro, NC. Carol Kraszewski, Pemberton, NJ. Two step sons, David Burdynskie, Jackson, NJ. Michael Burdynskie, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Mr. Gallagher was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday prior to services.

Eddie Lassiter
AHOSKIE – Eddie Lassiter, 72, died January 1, 2008, at Guardian Care Nursing Home.

Richard Williams
MURFREESBORO – Richard L. Williams, 63, a native of Hertford County, died December 30, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Williams was a member of First Baptist Church Murfreesboro. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #25 in Washington, DC.
Survivors include one son, Donovan L. Williams of Washington, DC; one brother, John Henry Williams, Como; and two sisters, Estella W. Hart of Woodland and Joyce Barnes of Como.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, by Rev. Robert Richardson III.
Burial will be in Carver Park Cemetery, Murfreesboro.
