LASKER – Albemarle kept it close for the first three minutes.
Northeast Academy took the lead on a Danielle Hallman bucket with five minutes to go in the first quarter and the Lady Eagles went on to crush Albemarle 46-10.
“They really played like a team,” said Northeast head coach Joella Brown. “We kept the turnovers low and had a good shooting percentage tonight.”
Albemarle scored first, a basket by Laurie Courtwright.
Betty Edwards made the next two Northeast buckets, including a steal she took to the hoop, for a 4-2 advantage.
Ashley Taylor tied the game but Hallman’s go-ahead basket started an eight point Northeast run.
Albemarle’s Courtney Jones made the second of two foul shots, but Callie Burgess scored consecutive buckets as Northeast held a 16-5 lead at the end of the first.
Northeast’s defense held the Lady Colts scoreless in the second quarter while offensively they poured in 13 points, stretching their lead to 24 (29-5).
Jones scored a hoop at the top of the third to end Albemarle’s scoring drought. Hallman sank two from the charity stripe, Burgess added two buckets and Molly Hargrave took a steal to the basket giving Northeast a 36-7 advantage.
The Lady Eagles kept it up in the fourth, outscoring Albemarle 10-3 as they took an easy win, 46-10.
Burgess led Northeast with 14 points and seven boards.
Edwards added 11 points.
Hillman also scored 11 and pulled down nine rebounds.
With only five players Albemarle was undermanned and a speedy Northeast team quickly wore down them down.
Northeast’s defense forced Albemarle to commit 30 turnovers and they outrebounded the Lady Colts 26-15.
In junior varsity action Albemarle took a 21-15 victory over Northeast.
Ashton Liverman led the Lady Eagles with eight points.
