Archie W. Myers, Jr.

AHOSKIE n Archie Wayne Myers, Jr., 86, of the 400 block of North Curtis Street, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, in Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

Mr. Myers was born in Bertie County, a son of the late Archie Wayne Myers, Sr. and Lena Myers Myers.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, the Ahoskie Kiwanis Club, and was an Army veteran of WWII.  After attending Kings Business College, Mr. Myers was owner and operator of A. W. Myers Building Supply Company until his retirement.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Gertrude Wiggins Myers; a daughter, Rita M. Bula and husband, Jeffrey of Windsor Ontario, Canada; a son, Alan Myers and wife, Betty of Ahoskie; a brother, Lawrence Wood Myers and wife, Elaine of Ahoskie; a grandson, Alan Weston Myers and a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Myers.  Besides his parents, Wayne was predeceased by a sister, Janice Wynns.

A celebration of life service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2008, at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Daniel Glaze officiating.  Burial followed in Ahoskie Cemetery.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, and other times at the home.  Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, P.O. Lucille C. Vinson

WINTON – Lucille Cooke Vinson, 89, of the 300 block of River Road, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

She was a native of Bertie County, a daughter of the late James Thomas and Cora Hoggard Cooke, a retired Bank Teller and Cashier for Tarheel Bank, now Southern Bank  in Winton, and also with her husband owned and operated Old Mill Golf and Country Club in Winton. She was a member of Winton Baptist Church and the widow of Woodrow E. Vinson, Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons; Woodrow E. Vinson, Jr. and wife Kay S.

Ahoskie, NC, Donald W. Vinson and wife Judy H., Winton, NC, four grandchildren;

Scott Vinson and wife Jody, Newman, GA., Lisa Pope and husband David, Winton, NC., Hope Vinson, Wilmington, NC, Christy Michele Hodges and husband Tim, Como, NC, three great grandchildren; Jack Davis Vinson, Clayton Ellis Vinson, and Sara Grace Hodges, and many Nieces and Nephews

A celebration of life service was conducted at

4:00 PM Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Garrett Funeral Home Ashley Chapel 205 NC Highway 42 West Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Franklin Stansbury officiating. Burial was in Ahoskie Cemetery.

JACKSON n Funeral services for Celestine Newsome, died April 6, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital is incomplete.

WINDSOR n Elizabeth Ann Anthony, 49, a native of Bertie County, died April 4, 2008 at

Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Colerain. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Henry Rhoulac

WILSON n Henry Daniel Rhoulac, 62, died April 4, 2008 in Wilson.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Windsor. There will be a private burial at the Thompson family cemetery. Visitation services will be held Thursday from 6-7 p.m. at Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to H.D. Martha Watson

WINDSOR n Martha Watson, 92, died April 4, 2008 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Landing Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Landing Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor.

Jerry Yellardy Jr.

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Jerry Wayne Yellardy Jr., 29, died April 3, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Raeford Harris Brabble

COLERAIN – Raeford Harris Brabble 93, of the 1200 Block of NC 42, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

He was a native of Chowan County, the son of the late John William Brabble and Virena Harris Brabble. A devoted husband and father; Jack of all trades-Painter, Carpenter, Wood Worker and Tenant Farmer for 60 years. For the past 14 years he assisted his wife as the church custodian, a member of the Carpenters Shop Church where he served as secretary treasurer from 1967 until 1978 and as a deacon for 20 years. In 1995 he was made an honorary lifetime Deacon.

He was preceded in Death by his first wife Olivia Lee Brabble and one son Dorsey Frances Brabble.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years Audrey Williams Brabble and his children; Raeford H. Jr. and Frances Parker Brabble or Roanoke Rapids, NC, James Obed and wife Betty Hodges Brabble of Washington, NC, Olivia (Libby ) and Monnie V. Parker of Ahoskie, David L and Linda Watson Brabble of Port St. Lucie, FL., Ralph P. and Martha Tillery Brabble of Ahoskie, Jean B. and Richard S. Burkett of Colerain, Ronald E. and Betty Drew Babble of Ahoskie, Floyd L. and Sue Whitehead Brabble of Ahoskie, Glen Ray and Melanie Spivey Brabble of Colerain. He raised three grandchildren as his very own Annette and Doug Jernigan of Windsor, Thomas Dorsey and Mary Snyder Brabble of Washington, NC, Andrew James and Ann Mizelle Brabble of Colerain, a brother John Brabble of Edenton, NC, 23 Grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, with two more on the way. Around 75 grandchildren, great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren added to the family not through blood lines but through love lines. An entire church family that adored him and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Carpenters Shop Church with Rev Wallace Phillips and Rev Lester Jarrett. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at the Garrett Funeral Home Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Hwy 42 West, Ahoskie, NC. Memorial donations may be made to Carpenter’s Shop Church, 903 S Catherine Creek Rd, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Ronald R. Brooks

HAMPTON, Va. n Ronald R. Brooks, a native of Goldsboro, died April 4, 2008.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Baptist Church, Hampton. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving visitors at 99 Tide Mill Lane, Apt. 148, Hampton. The church is located at 125 W. County St., Hampton. Information submitted by Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Brooks of Hampton; two sons, Derick Brooks and Da’Rel Brooks; three daughters, T. Annette Brooks and Destiney Brooks, all of Hampton and Sharae Pope of Cofield; his parents, Willie Russell Brooks and Esther Brooks; stepbrother, David Sturdivant; stepsister, Courtaney Sturdivant; his grandmother, Louise Richardson; and three grandchildren.
