After serving two years in an appointed capacity, Annie W. Mobley won the District Five House of Representatives seat in her own right Tuesday night.
She defeated former Hertford County Commissioner Robert Richardson by sweeping all four counties (Bertie, Gates, Hertford and Perquimans) to earn the Democratic nomination to the seat. She faces no Republican opposition in November.
Her final vote tally saw Mobley score 58.5 percent of the vote. She was named on 8,381 ballots compared to 5,927 for Richardson.
It was Bertie County that made the difference for Mobley as she almost doubled Richardson’s totals. Mobley was marked on 3,056 ballots compared to just 1,567 for Richardson.
Perquimans also helped send Mobley back to Raleigh as she claimed victory by a 521-vote margin there. She received 1,391 votes compared to 870 for Richardson.
The closest vote total came in Hertford County, where both hail from. Mobley won by less than 200 votes as she garnered 2,673 votes while Richardson was named on 2,485 ballots.
In Gates County, Mobley also claimed victory. There she was chosen by 1,261 of the 2,266 people who cast ballots.
