Leighton V. Carter, age 86 of Como, died Thursday November 20, 2008 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
He was born April 11, 1922 in Edgecombe County to the late William T. Carter and Eula Blount Carter.
He was the husband of the late Retha Flanagan Carter.
He was a retired electrician.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2008 in the Ashley Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. Rev. John Hackney will officiate
Left to cherish his memory are a son, Don Carter and his wife Patricia of Greenville; grandchildren, Shelley Burton and her husband John and Denise Martin and her husband Joe, both of Maryland, Donald Dustin Carter and his wife Elizabeth and Christopher Mark Carter and his wife Amy, both of Greenville and four great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sons, Dennis Carter and Samuel Carter.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, 205 NC Hwy 42 West, Ahoskie.
