John Pierce

Former Hertford County Commissioner John Pierce, 57, of Winton departed this life on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
He was born on October 27, 1951 to the late John E. Pierce Sr. and Areatha Jones Pierce Burke.
He was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee for 36 years.
John was employed with Northrop Gruman Newport News Shipbuilding for 38 years. He was also self-employed with Pierce Bros. where he was co-owner with his brother, Rex.
He was a retired member of the Winton Rescue Squad and Winton Fire Department, serving 29 years in each. John also served as business manager for the Newport News Shipyard Commuter’s Club.
A dedicated public servant, John served on the Hertford County Board of Commissioners, Hertford County Board of Education, Hertford County ABC Board and CS Brown Alumni Association.
He is survived by his wife, Valeria Simmon Pierce; a son, Jeffrey Pierce (Melissa) of Knox, PA.; a daughter, Jeri Pierce of Winton; grandson, Brandon; granddaughter, Jenna, both of Knox, PA; one brother, Rex Pierce
(Shannon) of Ahoskie; two aunts, Dorothy Melton and Annie Pierce of Ahoskie; one uncle, Randolph Porter (Annie) of Baltimore, MD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are incomplete at this time.
