Mary Bridgers

CONWAY – Mary Naomi Bridgers, 91, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie after a brief illness.
She had been preceded in death by her husband, of 25 years, J. Ivey Bridgers; parents, Brode Thomas and Nina Lloyde Wynne Duke; and sisters, Nadine Duke, Adelaide D. Fuller, Grace D. Parker and Page D. Thompson.
Originally from Valentine, VA, her family moved to Jackson where Naomi lived most of her childhood. She then attended nursing school in Norfolk, VA and devoted her life to attending to the sick and injured through the offices of Jackson Health Clinic, Roanoke Chowan Hospital and Dr. J. A. Fleetwood, Sr. and J. A. Fleetwood, Jr.
She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, John Ivey Bridgers Jr. and wife, Connie, of Conway, Frank Bridgers of Raleigh and Tim Bridgers of home; one grandson, Benjamin Ivey Bridgers of Kitty Hawk; one sister, Clarine Knight of Boykins, VA; and one brother, Brode T. Duke Jr. and wife, Helen, of Charlotte; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7 in Zion United Methodist Church with Revs. Ed Drew, Brian Deitrich and Sidney Collins presiding. Burial will follow in the Town of Conway cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home Inc. in Conway from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6 and have requested that anyone wishing to share a memorial gift, please do so to Zion United Methodist Church or to Northampton County Meals On Wheels Program.
