TIC hands out volleyball honors

HOBGOOD – The Tarheel Independent Conference honored the best volleyball players and teams in the league last week.
During the TIC tournament held at Hobgood Academy, the conference honored regular-season and tournament champions as well as All-Conference and All-Tournament selections.
In the varsity section, the TIC honored Lawrence Academy as regular-season champion while Hobgood Academy earned the title of TIC Tournament Champions.
Ashtyn Mizelle of Lawrence Academy was chosen TIC Player of the Year for her work during the season. Joining Mizelle on the All-Tarheel Independent Conference team were Ashton Lyle (Lawrence), Lacy Pfeiffer (Northeast Academy), Emily Cooke (Ridgecroft School), Sara Elks (Hobgood), Sarah Gregory Sykes (Hobgood), Allison Armstrong (Pungo Christian Academy), Jenny Phillips (Albemarle School) and Kelsey Van Staalduinen (Terra Ceia Christian School).
Selected as Honorable Mention All-Conference were Taylor Sexton (Lawrence), Jennifer White (Lawrence), Lindsay Jacob (Ridgecroft), Jennifer Sykes (Northeast), Kelly Sykes (Northeast), Bobbi Stewart (Hobgood), Haley Williams (Hobgood), Ashlie Morris (Albemarle), Tess Smithwick (Pungo) and Lindsey Smith (Terra Ceia).
The Coach of the Year was Lawrence Academy’s Dr. Ed Clouse whole the Sportsmanship Award went to Pungo Christian Academy and Hobgood Academy.
The varsity All-Tournament Team was led by Sarah Gregory Sykes, who was named tourney MVP. Also on the All-Tournament Team were Jennifer Sykes (Northeast), Ashtyn Mizelle (Lawrence), Ashton Lyle (Lawrence), Schuyler Edmonson (Hobgood) and Jenny Phillips (Albemarle).
In the junior varsity portion of the tournament, Hobgood Academy won the event. Pungo Christian Academy, who tied with Hobgood in the regular season, finished second.
The All-Tarheel Independent Conference Team included Lauren Colson (Ridgecroft), Lindsay Bryant (Northeast), Hollie McNair (Lawrence), Ashley Barnes (Hobgood), Katie Moore (Hobgood), Melanie Harris (Pungo), Anna Mutschler (Pungo) and Morgan Boyd (Terra Ceia).
Chosen for the Honorable Mention All-Conference Team were Mary-joe Harrell (Ridgecroft), Ashlee Flythe (Northeast), Kim Northcott (Lawrence), Shelby Stokely (Albemarle), Morgan Medford (Hobgood), Jesse Bunting (Hobgood), Alex Payne (Pungo) and Karissa Cahoon (Pungo).
Hobgood’s Sarah Sykes was chosen Coach of the Year while Terra Ceia was honored with the Sportsmanship Award.
Ashley Barnes of Hobgood Academy was chosen tournament MVP. Joining her on the All-Tournament Team were Morgan Medford (Hobgood), Ashley Barnes (Hobgood), Alex Payne (Pungo), Melanie Harris (Pungo) and Lindsey Bryant (Northeast).
