Myrld Woodard

Myrld Barnes Woodard, 85, died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
She was the wife of Kenneth B. Woodard for 58 years, who preceded her in death May 11, 2001 after a tragic accident.
She was a native of Northampton County and the daughter of Gracie and Burton Barnes, deceased.
She was a member of Conway Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Financial Secretary, Board of Trustees, and member of the WMU.
She graduated from Conway High School and Norfolk Business College and had retired from Georgia Pacific Corp. in Murfreesboro, NC after 33 years of service. She was also a member of Conway Woman’s Club.
Survivors include a son, COL (Ret) Wayne Woodard of Washington, DC and wife, Gail, of Apex; a daughter, Betty Jo W. Chockley and husband, George, of Mebane; four grandchildren, Matt Woodard and wife, Allison, Jenny Woodard, Josh Chockley, and wife, Samantha, and Zack Chockley, and fiancé, Cristyle Cook; and a sister, Jo Kirkham, of Kill Devil Hills.
She was preceded in death along with her husband and parents by a daughter, Sandra Kay Woodard and a sister, Gracie Dare Barnes.
She was an avid sports fan, especially Carolina and the Yankees, and loved watching games and calling children and grandchildren after the games.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister and a friend to many. She will be surely missed by all who knew her and there will be an empty space in the lives of her family who will always love her and remember her.
A funeral service was conducted Monday, January 4 at Conway Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie McLawhorn and the Rev. James Hester presiding. Burial followed in the Town of Conway Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the family home.
