Lady Rams roll

AHOSKIE – Emily Cooke poured in 27 points to lead Ridgecroft School to a 69-14 win over Ahoskie Christian School here Tuesday night.

The Lady Rams also got 14 points from Sara Hackney and 10 from Lauren Colson in the non-conference victory. Bridget Babb led the Lady Warriors with five points.

Ahoskie Christian got on the board first with a hoop by Danielle Wiley, but Ridgecroft answered with 13 straight points.

Hackney started the spurt with a field goal and a free throw that was followed by a bucket from Miller Bryant and a triple by Cooke that made it 8-2.

Hackney added a pair of free throws before Cook had a field goal and a shot from the charity stripe to make it 13-3 in favor of the home team.

Babb stopped the spurt with a free throw, but the score was answered by Hackney scoring from the charity stripe to make it 14-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Dyani Hall scored first for the Lady Warriors in the second quarter, but her bucket was followed by 10 unanswered by the Lady Rams.

Cooke started the spurt with a three-pointer that was followed by hoops from Hackney and Colson. Hackney and Cooke also had free throws during the spurt.

Babb stopped the run temporarily with a hoop and Ridgecroft answered with a basket by Cooke. A Jessi Harrell free throw helped the Lady Warriors get as close as 26-8.

They were still down by the same margin after Colson and Wiley exchanged hoops, but Ridgecroft scored the final eight points of the second quarter. Cooke had three buckets and Bryant added one to establish a 36-10 lead at the intermission.

The Lady Rams kept up the offensive pressure as the second half started with Brice Harrison hitting an early free throw before Cooke and Bryant hit back-to-back triples to push their lead to 43-10.

Hall scored to stop the run, but it was the only bucket of the quarter for Ahoskie Christian as Ridgecroft scored the final 13 points to take a 56-12 lead.

Cooke scored four of those points while Hackney, Bryant, Harrison and Colson each had baskets as well.

The Lady Rams got the first bucket of the fourth quarter when Tayler Smith scored. Babb answered with a bucket for Ahoskie, but the Lady Rams rolled off the next 11 straight.

Harrison hit a three-pointer that was followed by scores from Colson, Nikki Smith and Hackney.

In addition to those in double figures, the Lady Rams got nine from Bryant, five from Harrison and two each from Tayler Smith and Nikki Smith.
