MIDWAY – Two people were flown to Pitt Memorial Hospital via EastCare following an accident here Thursday morning.
According to a report filed by Trooper J.C. Copeland of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2006 GMC van operated by Louis Earl Ward, 74, was travelling south on U.S. 17 and turning left onto N.C. 45.
A second vehicle, a 1996 Mercury operated by Stacy Riddick, 30, of Edenton was traveling north on U.S. 17. Ward allegedly failed to yield the right of way and turned his van in front of Riddick’s vehicle.
The two vehicles collided and came to rest at the intersection.
Riddick and two passengers in her vehicle – Kamir Riddick, 2, and Jesse Holley, 3, – were transported to Bertie Memorial Hospital in Windsor with what were described as minor injuries.
Two other passengers in the car, Dellie Mae Riddick, 51, and Latisha Holley, 29, were flown by EastCare to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Both were treated and released.
Ward was charged with failure to yield the right of way following the accident and Riddick was charged with a child restraint violation.
