NCISAA baseball tourney continues

MERRY HILL – Play continues in a variety of locations in the first round of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A baseball playoffs.
One of those locations is in Merry Hill, where defending champion Lawrence Academy will host Faith Christian in the second round of the playoffs. The Warriors are the top seed at 24-4 after defeating Crossroads Christian 12-0 Friday.
The Patriots are the number nine seed, but upset number eight Community Christian School 18-8 to advance.
Also advancing was second seeded Wayne Country Day School (15-7) who defeated Pungo Christian Academy 14-0. They will move on to meet another Tarheel Independent Conference foe in Hobgood Academy.
The tenth-seeded Raiders advanced by defeating number seven Waccamaw Academy by a count of 9-3.
Other second round games include number four Wayne Christian School (12-9) hosting number five Trinity School of Durham. Wayne Christian edged Ridgecroft School 8-7 while Trinity topped Northeast Academy 13-7.
The final quarterfinal contest will see number six Greenfield School (14-7) hosting number 14 Shannon Forest Christian School. Greenfield topped Trinity Christian 12-2 in the first round while Shannon Forest upset Cape Fear Christian, the number three seed, 14-0.
Winners advance to Wilson Friday where the semifinals will be held at Fleming Stadium.
