AHOSKIE – A Bertie County woman lost her life in a two-car accident here Wednesday afternoon.

According to a report filed by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper R.W. West, Esther Brown, 56, of Powellsville was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of N.C. 11 and N.C. 11.

According to Trooper West, Brown began to cross the highway and failed to yield the right of way causing her 1994 Mazda to be struck on the driver’s side by a 2009 Nissan Sport Utility Vehicle.

Brown died of injuries sustained in the accident while the driver of the Nissan – Janice Howell of Suffolk, Virginia – was transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

There were no charges filed in the incident.
