WINDSOR – The town of Windsor paid its final respects to the late O. Wint Hale Sr. here last week.

“This is a bitter-sweet moment for me,” Windsor Mayor Jimmy Hoggard said. “When I became mayor, the first thing I did was give a plaque to Wint Hale to honor his years of service.”

Hale died June 30 after a lifetime of service which included more than 30 years as a Windsor Commissioner.

Mayor Hoggard and the Windsor Board of Commissioner officially presented a resolution honoring Hale’s service to his two children, Oliver W. Hale Jr. and Len Hale Joyner, during last week’s meeting.

The resolution began, “Whereas, the Board of Commissioners wish to honor the memory and legacy of Oliver W. Hale Sr., who died on June 30, 2010, at the age of 89, after a long and distinguished career in service of the Town of Windsor;

“Whereas, Oliver W. Hale Sr., was first and foremost a husband and father who was deeply devoted to his family,” it continued. “Whereas, Oliver W. Hale Sr. was a loyal and good friend to all who knew him, and a man of generosity of spirit who truly never met a stranger.

“Whereas, Oliver W. Hale Sr., was a man of honor and integrity who had a deep and abiding faith in God and his fellow man,” the resolution read.

The resolution went on to praise Hale for his service as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees, a volunteer fireman and a member of the Mid-East Commission.

The resolution continued, “Whereas, Oliver W. Hale Sr., was a true champion, friend and public servant of his town and community, whose loss is deeply felt and mourned by this board.”

The board then, by adopting the document, resolved that the town was saddened by the death of “their distinguished public servant” and that the town wished to pay honor to Hale’s long career of service.

“The Board of Commissioners wish to offer the family of Oliver W. Hale Sr., our deepest sympathy and heart-felt appreciation of his services to our community, our region, state and country,” the resolution reads.

A copy of the resolution was presented by the mayor to both of Hale’s children during the meeting.
