Lady Eagles sweep two

Northeast Academy swept a pair of varsity tennis outings in the last week to improve to 3-1 for the season.

The first victory for the Lady Eagles came when they defeated Northampton County High School – East by a final of 8-1.

The Lady Eagles were led to victory by a perfect 8-0 win for sixth-seeded Ivey Little who won her match over Patrice Williams and an equally perfect match for fourth-seeded Taylor Cocke, who blanked Kristin Martin 8-0.

At the number one position, Kalen Rose of Northeast secured an 8-1 win over Alexus Shoulders and third-seeded Haley Jones knocked off Jessica Phipps 8-2.

Fifth-seed Allyson Leggett claimed the final singles victory for Northeast as she defeated Brittany Bazemore 8-2.

The lone win for Northampton was a 9-8 win by Michelle Perry over Ashlynn Bridgers at the number two seed.

In doubles action, Northeast swept the action winning all three competitions.

Last Thursday, the Lady Eagles knocked off Hertford County High School by a count of 8-1.

Again Cocke and Little were able to win their matches without losing a single game. Cocke won 8-0 over Tyler Christian while Little defeated Brina Arellano by the same score.

Haley also won again at the number three seed as she defeated Teirra Walton 8-1. Leggett claimed an identical 8-1 win over Tiffani Reddick at the number five position.

Northeast top seed Kalen Rose defeated Bria Freeman 8-3 in their match.

The only victory for the Lady Bears came at the number two slot where Heaven Rushing defeated Ashton Liverman 8-3.

In doubles action, Rose and Jones secured an 8-4 win over Freeman and Rushing in the top doubles contest. Number two doubles saw Little and Cocke roll to an 8-0 win over Walton and Christian and number three saw Leggett and Mollie Cocke win 8-0 over Reddick and Arellano.

In their next outing, the Lady Eagles will travel to Roanoke Rapids High School on Monday.
