JACKSON — Revitalization and repairs will come to three Northampton County public schools thanks to a grant from Lowe’s Home Improvement.

On Monday, Lowes representatives Greg Powell and Craig Moore presented Northampton County Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric Bracy and Northampton County Board of Education Chairman Bill Little with a $50,000 check from Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation.

The school system will use the grant to improve the overall environment as well as safety at Willis Hare Elementary School, Conway Middle School and Northampton County High School-West STEM.

At those three schools, the funds will go toward replacing exterior doors and hardware with safety lock keypads, installing security cameras, new bathroom stall doors, hot water at sinks and upgrade classroom cabinets.

In addition, the grant will extend the overall life of support buildings such as the field house and weight room by assisting with roof replacement and exterior painting.

Powell, the Regional General Manager of the Garysburg Lowe’s Distribution Center, said the company plans on building on a rapport with the school system.

“I’m proud to stand here tonight and show our commitment to build better communities in which our employees live and work,” he said. “This is the first step, partnered with (Assistant Superintendent) Phil Matthews, in a long and continuous relationship with Northampton County Schools. Thank you very much, we look toward a great future with you.”

Since it began in 1957, Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has helped communities nationwide through employee volunteerism and financial contributions. In 2009, Lowe’s and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation together contributed more than $30 million to support community and education projects in the United States and Canada.
