JACKSONVILLE, FL. – Barbara Jane White of Jacksonville, FL died peacefully Saturday, January 8, 2011 surrounded by her loving family at the Earl B. Hadlow Community Hospice. She was 74.
Mrs. White, who succumbed to complications from Alzheimer’s, was married to her husband of 54 years, James M. White of Jacksonville. She was born December 9, 1936 in Colerain, NC to the late Thomas and Sarah Harrell.
Mrs. White attended East Carolina University and, after moving to Jacksonville with her husband in 1956, graduated with a degree in elementary education from Jacksonville University. She reared three children while teaching at the prestigious Chappell School. She was a member of Arlington and Lakewood United Methodist Churches.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. White is survived by three children, James E. White and his wife, Heidi, of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Jane Nelson and her husband, Gary, of Miami, FL and Edwin M. White of Niceville, FL. She had six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. White is also survived by her brothers, Thomas Harrell of Colerain, NC, and Fletcher Harrell of Yadkinville, NC. She was preceded in death by her sister, Molly Harrell Raines of Emerald Isle, NC.
A celebration of life event will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at The Hidden Hills Country Club, 3901 Monument Road, Jacksonville, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mrs. White’s memory to Community Hospice Foundation, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
