Ahoskie man charged

AHOSKIE – Caught red-handed.

An Ahoskie man was discovered inside the Sunoco station (641 North Academy Street) in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Feb. 8.

The Ahoskie Police Department, responding to a call that reported an individual apparently throwing an object at the front door of the convenience store, found 26-year-old Matthew Cain Edwards 501 North Academy Street inside the business.

The APD – Sgt. Justin Farmer along with Officers Brent Doughtie and Jeffrey Woodard – discovered upon their arrival that the glass front door of the business had been broken.

Edwards, who was found to be in possession of store merchandise, was placed under arrest and charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, damage to property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed under a $26,000 secured bond and made his first court appearance later on Tuesday.
