WINDSOR – A third person has been arrested in connection with the murder of Isaac Maurice Bland.
Bertie County Sheriff John Holley reported the arrest of Takela Quanta Brown, 30, of Martin County in connection with the case. Brown was picked up in Martin County on Thursday and charged.
Brown was charged with accessory after the fact of first degree murder and submitting a false police report. She was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under an $80,000 secured bond.
“She filed a false report and it caused us to investigate,” Sheriff Holley said. “When we checked into it, things didn’t add up and that led to the arrest.”
Brown is the third person arrested in connection with the slaying of Bland. Selran Leevron Watford, 22, of Windsor was arrested and charged with the murder shortly after Bland’s body was discovered on Feb. 7.
He is joined in Bertie-Martin Regional Jail by Tydreak Winston of Windsor, who turned himself in at the Bertie County Sheriff’s office. Both men are held without bond and charged with first degree murder.
Sheriff Holley has yet to release the cause of death for Bland, who was found in a body of water near Middle Track Road south of Windsor. He has also declined to reveal whether or not Bland was murdered at that site or if he was left there after being killed.
“We’re still investigating this case and there may be additional arrests, we’re not sure,” Sheriff Holley said. “We are working closely with other agencies as we move forward carefully and purposefully.”
